The Civil Division of St. John the Baptist Parish District Attorney’s Office provides the Parish Governing Authority with advice and counsel on complex legal issues and litigation matters. The District Attorney's Office is responsible for the enforcment of the Open Meetings Laws.
GENERAL CIVIL DUTIES:
Provide legal counsel to the President Parish and Parish Council
Attend and provide legal counsel at general meetings of government
bodies of the parish
Prepare and provide legal opinions for parish governments, school
Boards and various public agencies including assistance with state
agencies within the jurisdiction
Defend law suits and legal demands against parish governments and other
boards and commissions including schools boards, water, and sewerage, etc.
The Civil Division has established protocols to respond and answer all appropriate questions necessary to provide legal services to local government.
